Grassby - The Ross Manuscript

GROSBI - The Bishop of Bayeurs Fee in the Vill given to him by the Conqueror with its appurtenance in Salun had been ULEHILS Manor.

GROSEBI - At the Conquest Chetelbern held a manor in this Vill consisting of half a carucate - sufficient for one plough. There were four sokemen, and four bordars with one plough and ten acres of meadow worth 20 shillings.

GROSSEBI - At the commencement of the 12th century three oxgangs were held of the King here by William TORNIANT

GRISBY - 1142 - William LE Grosse, Earl of Albemarle gave Thornton Priory the Village of Grisby.

GRISBY - 1416-17 died John Poucher, Knight. Seized of lands and tenements here

GREISBY - In 1520 died William Hansart, Knight. Seized of the Manor of Greisby held of the Archbishop of York as of his Manor of Billingworth by Knights Service.  Elizabeth Hansard his grand-daughter was his heir.

GRESBIE - In 1635 on the 7th of February died Richard Rossiter of Sumerby. Seized of the Rectory appropriator of this village leaving his brother Edward, his heir then aged 18 years.

GROSSEBY - In c.1156 the Church of Grosseby and the tithes of the demesne of the Earl of Albemarle of Audleby were given to the Canons of Thornton when the Priory was first founded.

GRASBY - In Bishop Neales time (1616) this living was valued at £13. Thomas Leach was vicar. The King was Patron. There were 80 Communicants.

GRESSBY - In 1281 it was presented by the jurymen appointed by the Commissioners of Edward I to ascertain the extent of the late usurpation's of the crown liberties, - that William de Veer held in this Vill half an oxgang and two and half acres of land with appurtenances of the Kings demesne at Caistor,
